Quick Tip: How to Use Your Problems to Create Great Products
Maybe when you first started online you were all gung ho, really excited about it, whatever.
You’ve written 100 articles, you’ve created products, you’ve got 100 subscribers, you’ve answered a few emails. You do this for 90 days, you get done and you ask yourself, “Is this working?” “I’ve made a few sales, I’ve talked to a few people, I’ve made some profit, but I don’t even like it.” “I don’t like it, I don’t like the people in this niche, I don’t enjoy this as much 90 days from now.” And that’s when you step back and say, “Well, I don’t like this niche, do I like marketing?” “Yeah, I do like marketing but, I’m interested in something else.” And you say, you know what, I’m going to switch, I’m not going to do golf, I’m going to do line dancing, I’m going to take up line dancing.”
So then you switch to another niche. Let’s just say you do that for three, 90 day periods and then you come back and you look at the whole process and say, “Okay I did not like that one, so I quit. I didn’t like this one, so I quit. I didn’t like this one, so I quit.” Now, I’m not going to call this failure, I’m going to call this experience. Now, you look back and say, “Now we have a new pattern, the first pattern was, ‘Hey, we did all the steps right but we do not like this niche'”. We did that two more times, now we sit back and we say, “Okay, now we have to make a decision. Do I really have like the niche that I’m in, or am I doing a really lousy job of choosing niches? Maybe I really do not like marketing.” What is going on here? Now, we have a new set of experiences to evaluate. Maybe you will end up saying, “I do not want to go in those niches, but I imagine that there are a lot of people out there like me that cannot figure how to choose a niche and so, I’m going to see if I can start teaching people that do not know how to figure out a niche.”
Mother nature is the mother of all inventions. Maybe that’s an over-phrase, but most inventions happen because you are stuck. How many times have you been in the kitchen and you are trying to do something with a knife or fork or spoon and you go, “Wouldn’t it be nice, if this was a square spoon instead of a round spoon, or wouldn’t it be nice if this was a round fork instead of a square fork?”
This is a crazy example, but you know what I am going talking about I imagine. When you have tried to do something and you had the wrong implement and you went online to try to find the right implement and you could not find it and say, “I’m going to invent it, I wonder if anybody has invented this before?” Our experiences around us are kind of like the mothers of inventions. Because we do not invent things unless we see a need. And as we gain experience, we find what the needs that are in our niche and in our arena. So we have to have this process of asking, is this working?”
